Evgeniy Ambrosov

Evgeniy Ambrosov is Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of PAO Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest shipping company and one of the world’s leading transporters of energy by sea. He joined the company in June 2009, with responsibility for commercial fleet operations, including a sophisticated fleet operating in the harsh environments of the Far Eastern and Arctic seas, and for developing the potential of the Northern Sea Route for large tankers’ transits. In September 2014, Mr. Ambrosov was elected Deputy Chairman of Arctic Economic Council. A graduate of the Maritime State University in Vladivostok, Russia (1979), he worked for nearly 30 years in Russia's Far Eastern Shipping Company, rising from the position of Cargo Superintendent to President & CEO of the company.

Julian Bray is Editor-in-Chief of TradeWinds, the shipping business news publisher which since its launch 25 years ago has become a reference point for decision makers in the industry. During a career in business journalism, he has won awards for both reporting and editing and built a track record of product innovation having lead numerous newspaper, magazine and website launches and relaunches. In addition to his specialist knowledge of maritime commerce, he has also been a Correspondent for the Reuters news agency, written for national newspapers and magazines, and made television and radio appearances. Away from the office, a love of the natural work often takes him to wild and mountainous regions to walk, cycle, climb and watch wildlife with family and friends. He also has a passionate interest in politics, culture and music.
 
Jan Dieleman
President
Cargill

Jan Dieleman is president of Cargill’s ocean transportation business, based in Geneva, Switzerland. During his 18-year career with the company, Jan has managed multiple businesses in the U.S. and Europe. Jan joined Cargill in 1999 working as a management trainee in Amsterdam. During the next decade, Jan gained considerable experience as a trading manager across freight, grain, and energy markets. He was appointed the head of Cargill’s coal trading business in 2012 and subsequently led Cargill’s North America power and gas unit. In 2016, Jan moved into his current position as president of the ocean transportation business and also joined Cargill’s Global Corporate Risk Committee. He immediately identified sustainable shipping as a foremost priority within the ocean transportation strategy. He is currently leading his team to realize tangible progress under the United Nations framework for sustainable development. Jan is seeking to drive progress across the maritime industry, as well. In 2016, he became a non-executive director of the Carbon War Room, an organization that focuses on the decarbonization of maritime transportation. He has advocated publicly for higher standards and transformation across the industry as shipping plays an increasingly important role in a sustainable global economy. A native of the Netherlands, Jan graduated from the University of Maastricht with a master’s degree in economics, marketing, and organization.

 
Angeliki Frangou
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Navios Group

Angeliki Frangou, a fifth-generation ship owner, is known within the industry for her entrepreneurial vision and innovation. She is the head of the Navios Group, a global maritime consortium which includes four publicly listed companies trading on the New York Stock Exchange and one publicly listed company trading on the Norwegian OTC market. The Group currently controls a diversified fleet of over 200 vessels including dry bulk and container vessels as well as crude and product tankers. Navios Group also holds a majority stake in Navios South American Logistics, a logistics business consisting of a transshipment port/storage facility in Uruguay for grain and mineral commodities as well as a barge and cabotage business for wet and dry products.

Frangou is a Member of the Board of Trustees of Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she received her BS in Mechanical Engineering, summa cum laude. She is also a Member of the Board of Visitors of the Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science, where she earned her master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

 
Sturla Henriksen
Special Advisor
United Nations Global Compact
As of 1. January 2018 Sturla Henriksen has been appointed Special Advisor on Oceans to the UN Global Compact. Prior to this, he served for ten years as Chief Executive Officer of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association. He is a board member of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs. He has served at the boards of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the European Community Shipowners’ Association (ECSA), and as Deputy Chairman of the DNVGL Council. He has been member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Arctic. His professional career includes ten years of experience from strategic management consulting, in which he held a position as Senior Executive of Accenture. He has also held positions in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, the Norwegian Central Bureau of Statistics, the EU Commission Services (Brussels), the European Free Trade Association (Geneva) and as officer in the Norwegian Defence Forces.
 
Evangelos M. Marinakis

Mr. Marinakis is the founder and Chairman of Capital Maritime & Trading Corp. Capital Maritime currently manages a diversified fleet of 80 vessels and a total 9mil deadweight including the fleet of NASDAQ listed Capital Product Partners L.P. Mr. Marinakis has a successful track record of more than 30 years in shipping and capital markets having successfully completed two IPOs and having grown the Capital companies throughout the shipping cycles. Mr. Marinakis has been also the architect of Capital’s diversification from a dry bulk company two decades ago into LNG, product and crude tankers as well as containers having repeatedly timed successfully the newbuilding and second-hand asset markets.
 
Basil G. Mavroleon

Basil G. Mavroleon has been in the shipping industry for over 40 years.  In 1970, Mr. Mavroleon left the family shipping business and joined Charles R. Weber Company, Inc., one of the oldest and largest tanker brokerages and marine consultants in the United States.  Mr. Mavroleon was Managing Director of Charles R. Weber Company, Inc. for 25 years and Manager of the Projects Group for 5 years.  Mr. Mavroleon now serves as Managing Director of WeberSeas (Hellas) S. A., a comprehensive sale and purchase, newbuilding, marine projects and ship finance brokerage in Athens, Greece.  Mr. Mavroleon serves as a Director of Genco Shipping and Trading Limited and previously as a Director of Baltic Trading Limited until its merger with Genco, both NYSE listed companies.  He also serves as Director of Pyxis Tankers Inc., a Nasdaq listed company.  Since its inception in 2003 through its liquidation in 2005, Mr. Mavroleon served as Chairman of Azimuth Fund Management (Jersey) Limited, a hedge fund that dealt with tanker freight forward agreements and derivatives.  Mr. Mavroleon is a member of the Baltic Exchange, is on the board of the Associate Membership Committee of INTERTANKO, a member of the Association of Ship Brokers and Agents, a member of the Hellenic Shipbrokers Association, is on the Advisory Board of NAMMA (North American Maritime Ministry Association), is Director Emeritus of NAMEPA (North American Marine Environmental Protection Association), and is the President of Worldscale Association (NYC) INC.  Mr. Mavroleon is a member of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA), NYMAR (New York Maritime Inc.), an Honorary Director of the Maritime Foundation Knowledge Center and an Associate Member of the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame Academy and a Trustee of The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.  He was educated at Windham College, Putney Vermont.

 
Ismini Panayotides

Ismini is the CEO & Founder of Pavimar S.A. She founded Pavimar S.A. in 2014 and has been CEO for four years. Previously, Ismini served for 8 years as Business Development Officer in Pavimar Group. She has been involved in the ship owning and ship management since 2004, and a member of the executive committee of Hope Genesis, an NGO in the field of medicine that addresses the low birth rates in Greece. Ismini has also been a member of the executive committee of Elpida Youth, a branch of Elpida Association of Friends of Children with Cancer. She holds a BSc in Business Administration from Boston University School of Management, an MSc in Shipping Trade and Finance from City University London Cass Business School and a diploma in Shipping Law from University College London. 

 
Anastasios Papagiannopoulos
Principal
Common Progress & President of BIMCO

Mr. Papagiannopoulos has been a principal of Common Progress since its establishment in 1984 and has more than 37 years of experience in shipping. Mr. Papagiannopoulos has been elected since 1996 until 2018 on the Board of Directors of the Union of Greek Shipowners and since 2006 until 2018 in the Executive Committee of the Union including Committee Chairman of the Seaman’s Social Security and Labour Issues. He is currently President of BIMCO and an elected member of the Executive Committee where he had served since 1998 as an elected member of the Documentary Committee. Since 2004 he has also been an elected member in the Greek Committee of Det Norske Veritas Germanischer Lloyd (DNV-GL). Mr. Papagiannopoulos has been elected (2006) in the Executive Committee of International Chamber of Shipping, (ICS). Mr. Papagiannopoulos holds a BA in Law from the National University of Athens, an MSc in Economics from Queen Mary College, University of London, an MA in European Integration from University of Reading and a PhD in Economics from Queen Mary College, University of London.

 
Milena Pappas

Milena is a Commercial Director of Star Bulk Carriers Corp. and under her capacity she is responsible for S&P, for Commercial Projects and for Investor Relations. She also serves as a consultant of Interchart Shipping Inc., the exclusive Chartering Broker of Star Bulk Carriers Corp. Between October 2009 and August 2014 Milena served as a Director of the Board of Star Bulk Carriers Corp., and between 2008 and 2010 she worked as a Chartering Broker for the company. Since 2006 and until the end of 2007, Milena worked in the Finance Department of Oceanbulk Maritime S.A. and prior to that, she was trained at Merrill Lynch in the Private Wealth Department and thereafter at the CoeClerici Group in the Risk Management Department. In 2004, whilst at Merrill Lynch, she assisted in founding the “Women’s Milestones” program. Milena holds a dual Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Cornell University, N.Y, where she graduated with honours and an M.Sc. in Shipping, Trade and Finance from Cass University, London.

 
John Michael Radziwill

C Transport Maritime S.A.M & Goodbulk Ltd.

John Michael Radziwill is the Chief Executive Officer of C Transport Maritime S.A.M. based in Monaco, a third party ship manager active in the dry bulk market, a position he holds since 2010. Mr Radziwill also serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of GoodBulk Ltd., a ship owning company active in the dry bulk segment and listed on the Norwegian OTC market under the symbol BULK, a position he holds since October 2016.  Mr. Radziwill serves as an advisor of SCP Clover Maritime, a company that manages assets and investments for the Radziwill family. In 2002, he served as Administrative Officer at Ceres Hellenic Enterprise’s New Building Site Office in Koje, South Korea. In 2003, he joined Ceres Hellenic’s Insurance and Claims Department in Piraeus, Greece. In 2006, after working at H. Clarkson & Co. Ltd and Seascope Insurance Services Ltd both in London, England, he joined the Commercial Department of C Transport Maritime S.A.M. in Monaco, first as Capesize freight trader then moving to head the Sale and Purchase division. Between May 8, 2013 until May 20, 2016 he served as a Director of Euronav NV, a publicly listed tanker company. He is a Member of the American Bureau of Shipping and the Baltic Exchange. He graduated from Brown University in 2002 with a BA in Economics.

 
Paddy Rodgers

Patrick (known as Paddy) Rodgers became Chief Executive Officer of Euronav in 2000 and has served on Euronav’s Board of Directors since June 2003. He joined Euronav as a member of the Executive Committee in 1995 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 1998.  Since 2011, he has served as Director and Chairman of the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Fund (ITOPF).  Paddy was elected to the Executive Committee of Intertanko in May 2017. From 1990 to 1995 Paddy Rodgers worked at CMB Group as in-house Lawyer and subsequently as Shipping Executive moving to Euronav when it became a subsidiary for tanker investments of the CMB Group.  He graduated with an LLB in Law from University College London in 1981 and qualified to practise in 1984 having passed law society entrance exams after studying at the College of Law, Guildford in 1982. In 1984 he joined Bentley, Stokes & Lowless as a solicitor and in 1986 he moved to Johnson, Stokes & Master in Hong Kong where he practised until 1990.

 
Alexander Saverys

Alexander Saverys is Chief Executive Officer of CMB (Compagnie Maritime Belge) since 2014 and before that, Managing Director at Delphis NV, a company Alexander founded in 2004. Delphis is now part of CMB. Alexander has a Masters in Law (Catholic University of Leuven and Complutense Madrid) and an MBA of the Fachhochschule für Wirtschaft Berlin. He is also a director at the Belgian Shipowners Association. CMB is active in shipping (Bocimar, Delphis, Bochem) and aviation (ASL) and was founded in 1895. CMB’s newly created CMB Technologies focuses on developing and implementing new and existing technologies on board of CMB’s fleet. In November 2017, CMB Technologies took delivery of the Hydroville, the first sea-going passenger ship with a dual-fuel hydrogen-diesel engine.
 
Chris Tsakonas

Christos Tsakonas is the Global Head of Shipping for DNB Bank since September 2017. Prior to that he held the position of CEO and General Manager for DNB Bank’s operations in Asia. Christos joined DNB Bank in October 2008 and set up DNB’s Athens office which he headed until February 2014 focusing on providing financing and advisory services to the Bank’s Greek Shipping clients. In March 2014, he moved to Singapore to head the Bank’s Shipping, Offshore and Logistics operations in Asia and in September 2016 he became CEO and General Manager for the Bank’s overall operations in Asia. Prior to DNB he worked for JPMorgan in London for 10 years where he held positions in the Special Situations and Restructuring Groups as well the Corporate Finance team focusing on Transportation and Media & Telecommunications. Before joining JPMorgan, he worked as a Teaching Associate at the London School of Economics and as a Research Associate at STICERD. Christos holds a BSc and MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.

 
Nikolas Tsakos
President & CEO, Tsakos Energy Navigation &
Chairman, Intertanko

Mr. Tsakos is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. He has been involved in ship management since 1981. He comes from a traditional Chios shipping family, has extensive seafaring experience and served as an officer in the Hellenic Navy. Mr. Tsakos is the Chairman of the Independent Tanker Owners Association (INTERTANKO) and the former President of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELPEPA). He also sits on the boards of a number of other organisations and associations. He graduated from Columbia University in New York with a degree in Economics and Political Science in 1985 and obtained a Master’s Degree in Shipping, Trade and Finance from London’s City University Business School in 1987. In 2011, Mr. Tsakos was awarded an honorary doctorate from the City University Business School for his pioneering work in the equity financial markets relating to shipping companies.


 
Peter Weernink

SwissMarine Corporation (of Bermuda)

After training as an engineer spend 11 years with Cargill in various positions in the Ocean Transportation Division, from 1997 built up the Cape and Panamax freight trading business.  In 2001 founded SwissMarine with a team of ex Cargill employees. SwissMarine has under his leadership  rapidly grown to a leading dry bulk freight trader with offices in Bermuda, Geneva, SINGAPORE, Bermuda, Copenhagen and Tokyo. Volume carried is in the 120-130  milion mt range and turnover 2-3 billion usd per annum. Over the last few years SwissMarine has set up a baby cape, post Panamax and  handymax business and moved into ship owning.

 
Christopher J. Wiernicki

ABS

Chris Wiernicki is Chairman, President and CEO of ABS and Chairman of the ABS Group of Companies, Inc. He previously served as Chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies and held senior roles at ABS, including President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Technology Officer and President and COO of ABS Europe Ltd. Wiernicki is a Fellow with the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. In 2013, he was awarded the Vice Admiral Emory S. Land Medal for outstanding accomplishment in the marine field. In 2016, he earned the United Seaman’s Service Admiral of the Ocean Seas Award for outstanding contributions to the maritime industry, and is a member of the International Maritime Hall of Fame Class of 2016. Wiernicki received honorary Doctor of Science degrees from Maine Maritime Academy and SUNY Maritime College, and an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. In 2017, Wiernicki was named Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s Person of the Year. Wiernicki lectures at the university level on topics ranging from leadership to technology, serves on the Board of Trustees for the Seamen’s Church Institute along with other numerous University Boards and Advisory Councils. Wiernicki holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Vanderbilt and was inducted to Vanderbilt University School of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni. He holds a master’s degree in structural engineering from George Washington University where he was elected to the George Washington University Engineering Hall of Fame. Weirnicki also holds a master’s degree in ocean engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and completed Harvard University’s Advanced Management Program.
